International Bath Day
June 14 · Level 2 · #1852 of 2238
International Bath Day is an informal occasion to enjoy bathing traditions and make room for a slower pace. For bathhouse enthusiasts, a steam room is also a social space: somewhere to put everyday tasks aside and spend time with friends.
How it is celebrated: enthusiasts meet at bathhouses and saunas, share customs and explore different steam-bathing techniques. Themed sessions may demonstrate the use of leafy bath whisks and introduce visitors to local traditions.
Bathing culture has UNESCO recognition: Finland’s sauna culture is listed as intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The recognition concerns shared knowledge and customs, rather than a particular building.
