Light Industry Workers’ Day

Light Industry Workers’ Day celebrates the people who make textiles, clothing, footwear and other everyday goods. It recognises an entire production chain, from preparing materials and maintaining machinery to checking the finished product before it reaches a customer.

How it is celebrated: factories honour employees and retired colleagues, present awards and organise workplace gatherings. Product exhibitions and professional skills competitions can also accompany the occasion.

“Light” does not describe how demanding the work is. It is an industrial classification, traditionally contrasting these sectors with heavy industries such as steelmaking and large machinery production.
