Local Self-Government Day in Ukraine
December 7 · Level 4 · #1530 of 2238

A Ukrainian professional day for people who work in local government. It is a reminder that many everyday matters, from roads to schools, are settled at the level of a town, a village or a community.
How it is celebrated: mayors, local councillors and municipal staff receive congratulations, the best of them get awards, and communities hold meetings where residents discuss local affairs.
Ukraine ratified the European Charter of Local Self-Government in 1997, and the decentralisation reform that began in 2014 gave local communities more powers and more money to spend.
