Letter Writing Day
December 7 · Level 2 · #1877 of 2238
This day celebrates the small joy of getting a real letter on paper. It nudges you to put the phone down and write a few warm lines by hand to someone you care about.
How it is celebrated: people pick out nice stationery or a postcard, write to friends and relatives, then walk to a post box to send it off. Some turn it into a cosy letter-writing evening with tea and a sheet of stamps.
The Penny Black, issued in Britain in 1840, was the world's first adhesive postage stamp. It paved the way for the prepaid postage we still use today.
