International Day Against Fascism and Antisemitism
November 9 · Level 9 · #315 of 2238

This day remembers the harm caused by fascism and antisemitism and calls for resistance to hatred. Its date recalls the Nazi pogroms of 9–10 November 1938, when Jewish people, homes, businesses and synagogues came under attack.
How it is celebrated: remembrance gatherings, exhibitions and history talks honour the victims. Educational activities connect that history with recognising prejudice and responding when people face persecution today.
The name Kristallnacht, often rendered as “Night of Broken Glass,” refers to shattered shop windows. That image captures only part of the violence, which also involved killings, mass arrests and the devastation of Jewish communities.
