SOBR Day in Russia
November 9 · Level 10 · #34 of 2238
Russia’s SOBR Day recognises the officers of its special rapid response units. Their duties include high-risk arrests, hostage rescue and support for operations involving armed criminals. The observance highlights the training and teamwork behind these demanding assignments.
How it is celebrated: units hold ceremonial gatherings, present awards and welcome veterans. Remembrance events honour officers who have died in the line of duty.
SOBR is a Russian acronym meaning “special rapid response unit.” Although speed is in the name, extensive preparation underpins the work; the units were originally established primarily to tackle organised crime.
