World Sports Journalists Day
July 2 · Level 7 · #771 of 2238
World Sports Journalists Day honours the people who turn matches, races and tournaments into stories audiences can follow. Reporters, commentators and photographers introduce us to athletes and reveal what the final score alone cannot tell us.
How it is celebrated: professional associations congratulate colleagues, hold gatherings and discuss standards in sports reporting. Accuracy, fairness and respect for competitors are central themes.
The date marks the founding anniversary of the International Sports Press Association, AIPS. It was established in Paris in 1924, the year the city hosted the Summer Olympics.
