World Puppetry Day
March 21 · Level 5 · #1337 of 2238

World Puppetry Day honours the artists and makers who bring characters to life through movement, voice and craftsmanship. Celebrated since 2003 through the international puppetry organisation UNIMA, it connects performers and audiences across generations.
How it is celebrated: theatres stage shows, offer puppet-making workshops and introduce visitors to their craft. Festivals bring together techniques ranging from glove puppets and marionettes to shadow theatre.
A puppet performance does not always show the audience the puppet itself: in shadow theatre, the visible characters are silhouettes cast onto a lit screen.
