International Day of Forests

International Day of Forests highlights how much daily life depends on forest ecosystems. Forests provide wildlife habitat, help regulate water cycles and store carbon, making their protection relevant far beyond the woodland edge.

How it is celebrated: schools, conservation groups and forestry organisations arrange guided walks, lessons, planting activities and restoration events. Participants learn about protecting established ecosystems as well as choosing suitable trees for local conditions.

The observance reaches beyond forests themselves: its scope also includes trees outside woodland, including the ones growing along city streets.
