International Awareness Day for ME and Fibromyalgia
May 12 · Level 2 · #1863 of 2238

A day devoted to two chronic conditions, myalgic encephalomyelitis and fibromyalgia. They are hard to see from the outside, so people living with them want friends, employers and doctors to take them seriously.
How it is celebrated: patients and their families share their stories, join online meetings and talks, and raise funds for research and support. Many wear blue ribbons, and social media fills with posts about life with constant fatigue and pain.
The date is no accident: 12 May is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, who was unwell for many years and spent long periods confined to her bed.
