Environmental Education Day
May 12 · Level 4 · #1473 of 2238

Environmental Education Day highlights the knowledge people need to understand and care for the natural world. Observed in Russia, it connects everyday choices with the health of water, air, soil and wildlife, making environmental questions something everyone can explore.
How it is celebrated: schools, libraries and environmental organisations hold lessons, exhibitions, outdoor activities and community projects. Participants practise identifying local species, understanding waste and considering the effects of daily decisions.
The subject reaches far beyond biology class. The first intergovernmental conference on environmental education took place in Tbilisi in 1977, organised by UNESCO in cooperation with UNEP.
