International Depression Awareness Day
March 24 · Level 7 · #842 of 2238

This informal awareness day creates space to talk about depression and support people living with it. Its purpose is to reduce stigma, make seeking help feel less daunting and encourage more thoughtful conversations with friends, relatives and colleagues.
How it is celebrated: awareness posts and themed discussions explore depression, sources of support and experiences of recovery. Personal accounts help explain why telling someone to simply cheer up can be hurtful.
Despite the word “international” in its commonly used name, this is not an official United Nations observance. Informal awareness initiatives can operate without a central organizer or a shared program.
