International Day Against DRM

International Day Against DRM

This day is aimed at DRM, short for digital rights management. Supporters argue that these locks limit what people can do with books, music, games and films they have bought.

How it is celebrated: campaigners write online about DRM-free media, hold events and discussions and sign petitions. Some publishers and stores mark the day with sales on DRM-free titles.

The day is run by Defective by Design, a campaign of the Free Software Foundation. A typical complaint is an e-book you paid for that refuses to open on a second device.
