HumanLight

HumanLight is a secular winter holiday for humanists. It celebrates reason, compassion, hope and the idea that people can make the world better without appealing to the supernatural.

How it is celebrated: humanist groups and friends gather for a shared meal, music and short talks, readings about humanist values and a candle-lighting. Each community adds its own touches to the programme.

The holiday began in the United States, created by humanists in New Jersey and first marked in 2001. Its date sits among the other winter holidays, giving non-religious people a tradition of their own at that time of year.
