Long-Range Aviation Day of the Russian Aerospace Forces
December 23 · Level 10 · #49 of 2238

This is the day of pilots, navigators and ground crews of Long-Range Aviation in the Russian Aerospace Forces, the people who fly strategic bombers. The branch traces its history back to the heavy Ilya Muromets aircraft of the First World War.
How it is celebrated: air units hold ceremonial formations and award presentations, and airfields welcome veterans. Crews receive congratulations, and air bases remember families in which flying runs through generations.
The Tu-160 is the largest supersonic combat aircraft in the world with variable-sweep wings: in flight it swings them back to go faster.
