This is a professional holiday for the people who extract, transport and deliver natural gas to homes. Thanks to them, flats stay warm in winter and the kitchen stove works.
How it is celebrated: gas companies hold ceremonial meetings, give awards to their best employees, and colleagues and families gather for festive get-togethers. Industry veterans are usually thanked separately.
Azerbaijan is known as the Land of Fire: on the Absheron peninsula natural gas has seeped to the surface and burned for centuries, and the Yanar Dag hillside near Baku still burns today.
