Beekeeper's Day in Ukraine
August 19 · Level 3 · #1790 of 2238

Ukraine's Beekeeper's Day recognises the people who tend bee colonies and produce honey and other hive products. It celebrates a craft that takes patience and close observation, while reminding visitors that bees also do essential work pollinating plants.
How it is celebrated: honey fairs offer tastings and a chance to meet producers. Beekeepers exchange practical knowledge, display their products and explain what happens inside a working hive.
In 1814, Ukrainian beekeeper Petro Prokopovych developed an early frame hive. His invention was an important step towards methods that allowed honey to be harvested while preserving the colony.
