Russian Interior Ministry Inquiry Units Day
October 16 · Level 8 · #456 of 2238
This professional observance honours the inquiry units of Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs. Their officers establish what happened in criminal cases, gather evidence and check competing accounts—work in which careful attention can have major consequences for people's lives.
How it is celebrated: units hold formal gatherings, present awards and commendations, and recognise serving officers and veterans. Colleagues also look back at their units' history.
Russian legal terminology distinguishes an inquiry officer from an investigator. They hold different posts, although both carry out criminal investigations.
