Darwin Day
February 12 · Level 5 · #1177 of 2238
Darwin Day celebrates Charles Darwin's contribution to understanding life on Earth and the value of scientific inquiry. Held on his birthday, it invites people to explore evolution and how natural selection shapes living things over generations.
How it is celebrated: museums, universities and science groups organise talks, exhibitions and discussions. Activities give curious visitors a chance to connect evolutionary ideas with the plants and animals around them.
Darwin shares more than a birthday with Abraham Lincoln: both were born on 12 February 1809. Their very different lives began on exactly the same day, across the Atlantic from each other.
