Berlin International Film Festival
February 12 · Level 9 · #335 of 2238
The Berlinale brings filmmakers and audiences to Berlin for discoveries on the big screen. Its programme gives particular prominence to stories about society and politics, alongside the many personal experiences that cinema can make feel close to home.
How it is celebrated: audiences attend ticketed screenings, join discussions and meet filmmakers. A jury awards the competition prizes, while film professionals explore projects at the accompanying film market.
The festival's top prize is the Golden Bear. That animal has a local connection: a bear also appears on Berlin's coat of arms.
