Constitution Day of the Russian Federation

Constitution Day recalls 12 December 1993, when Russians voted in a national referendum to adopt the country's current Constitution. It is a good moment to think about the rules that frame citizens' rights and duties.

How it is celebrated: there are official ceremonies, school law lessons and exhibitions, and in many towns 14-year-olds receive their first passports. Since 2005 the date has no longer been a day off.

The original text had a preamble and 137 articles. The 2020 amendments were put to a nationwide vote that ran for a week and closed on 1 July.
