World Day of Social Justice
February 20 · Level 9 · #258 of 2238
This UN observance puts fair opportunities, decent work and protection from poverty in the spotlight. It asks a practical question: can everyone take part in society and share in its prosperity, whatever their background?
How it is celebrated: public discussions, educational events and awareness campaigns bring together unions, researchers and community organisations. Topics range from workplace rights to the barriers that prevent people from getting support.
The day was not observed immediately after its creation. The UN adopted the resolution in 2007, but the first celebration took place in 2009.
