International Ectodermal Dysplasias Awareness Day
February 20 · Level 1 · #2190 of 2238

Ectodermal dysplasias are a group of rare inherited conditions that affect the skin, hair, nails, teeth and sweat glands. This day helps explain them to doctors, teachers and everyone else.
How it is celebrated: families and patient groups share personal stories, host online meetings and run information campaigns. People talk about what helps most at school, at the dentist and in everyday life.
In some forms, the body has few sweat glands or none at all, so it cannot cool itself well and overheats easily. In hot weather, people with these forms rely on shade, plenty of water and cooling vests.
