World Scleroderma Day
June 29 · Level 3 · #1735 of 2238

Scleroderma is a rare autoimmune condition in which the skin and connective tissue become tight and hard, and sometimes internal organs are affected too. The day exists so that more people recognise the signs early and patients know they are not alone.
How it is celebrated: patient groups and doctors organise talks, meet-ups and online campaigns, share personal stories and raise money for research.
The name comes straight from Greek: skleros means hard and derma means skin. The word itself describes the best-known sign of the disease.
