International Mud Day
June 29 · Level 4 · #1440 of 2238

This is the day when children, and grown-ups too, are officially allowed to get muddy. It reminds us that messy outdoor play feeds imagination, coordination and curiosity.
How it is celebrated: teachers and parents in many countries set up mud kitchens, dig holes, bake mud pies, splash through puddles and make handprints on anything that stands still. The only real rules are to expect a mess and to pack spare clothes.
The date lands in different seasons: 29 June is high summer in the northern hemisphere but midwinter in Australia, so some children play in the sun and others in wellies and warm coats.
