World Portuguese Language Day celebrates a language that connects communities across continents. It offers a chance to explore the literature, music and everyday voices of Portuguese-speaking countries, with all their regional variety.
How it is celebrated: libraries, cultural centres and schools organize readings, concerts, film screenings and introductory lessons. Translation events introduce readers to writers from different parts of the Portuguese-speaking world.
Portuguese is an official language in nine countries. Alongside Portugal and Brazil, that group includes Angola and Timor-Leste.
