World Piano Day
March 29 · Level 6 · #1008 of 2238
World Piano Day celebrates the instrument and everyone who plays it, from first-week beginners to concert virtuosos. Classical, jazz and modern pieces all get their moment.
How it is celebrated: pianists give concerts and share recordings, music schools and venues open their doors, and plenty of people simply sit down at the keys at home to practise a favourite tune.
The date is a numerical joke: it falls on the 88th day of a regular year, and a standard piano has 88 keys. German musician Nils Frahm started the day in 2015.
