World Obesity Day
March 4 · Level 7 · #834 of 2238

World Obesity Day calls for better understanding of obesity and more support for people living with it. The campaign promotes access to prevention and care while challenging blame, stereotypes and weight-based discrimination.
How it is celebrated: health organisations run awareness campaigns, talks and community events. Discussions cover treatment, opportunities for physical activity, food environments and ways to offer support without judging someone’s body.
Willpower alone cannot explain obesity. Biology, inherited traits and the surrounding environment all play a part, which is why a simple instruction to eat less misses much of the picture.
