Belarus Police Day
March 4 · Level 8 · #465 of 2238
Belarus Police Day recognises the work of officers responsible for public order and criminal investigations. It is also an occasion to honour veterans and remember personnel who lost their lives while carrying out their duties.
How it is celebrated: police departments hold formal gatherings, present awards and congratulate staff. Flowers are laid at memorials, while meetings with veterans connect serving officers with earlier generations and the history of their service.
The Belarusian term for the police, militsiya, has roots in a Latin word associated with military service. Its local meaning developed into a name for civilian law enforcement.
