How it is celebrated: organizations showcase their projects, thank staff and volunteers, and hold events where potential supporters can meet the team. It is also a chance to discover a local cause and find a practical way to help.
Some NGOs hold consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. That gives civil society organizations a route into international discussions without representing a government.
