World Lizard Day
August 14 · Level 4 · #1388 of 2238
World Lizard Day puts a spotlight on reptiles ranging from tiny garden visitors to imposing monitors. It encourages curiosity about their diversity, their place in ecosystems and the habitats they need to survive.
How it is celebrated: zoos, wildlife educators and reptile enthusiasts share information, hold themed activities and discuss responsible animal care. Watching wild lizards without catching or disturbing them offers another way to get acquainted.
Some lizard species reproduce without males: young develop from unfertilized eggs through a process called parthenogenesis. Their family trees work rather differently from ours.
