International Day of Traditional Sports and Games
August 14 · Level 9 · #243 of 2238

This day celebrates games and contests passed down through generations: wrestling, archery, folk ball games and stick games. They carry the culture and customs of many different peoples.
How it is celebrated: communities organise open tournaments and demonstrations, and grown-ups teach children the old games of their region.
Tug of war, one of the simplest of such games, was part of the Summer Olympics from 1900 to 1920.
