World Hindi Day
January 10 · Level 4 · #1430 of 2238

This day honours Hindi, a language spoken by hundreds of millions of people in India and far beyond. It shows that Hindi thrives in literature, online and in communities around the world.
How it is celebrated: Indian embassies and cultural centres host poetry readings, talks and competitions, while schools and universities run quizzes and evenings of verse.
The date was chosen to mark the opening of the first World Hindi Conference in Nagpur on 10 January 1975. The day has been observed officially since 2006.
