World Hello Day

World Hello Day turns a simple greeting into a gesture for peace. Its message is easy to grasp: opening a conversation can help people understand one another and settle disagreements without violence.

How it is celebrated: participants greet at least ten people, whether familiar faces or someone they have never met. A hello in person, a phone call or a message all fit the spirit of reaching out.

Brothers Brian and Michael McCormack started the initiative in 1973 in response to the Yom Kippur War in the Middle East, giving an everyday word a much bigger purpose.
