Hellenic Armed Forces Day

Greece honours its army, navy and air force, which guard the country on land, at sea and in the air. The day is closely tied to the church, because Orthodox Christians also mark the Presentation of the Virgin Mary at the Temple on 21 November.

How it is celebrated: services and ceremonies take place in churches and military units, wreaths are laid, and troops stand in formal ranks. Many towns add displays and chances to meet service members.

Greece keeps its fixed church feasts by the Revised Julian calendar, which currently matches the Gregorian one. That is why the Presentation falls on 21 November there, unlike in churches that use the older Julian calendar.
