World Head and Neck Cancer Day
July 27 · Level 6 · #1004 of 2238

This day shines a light on cancers of the mouth, throat, larynx and other parts of the head and neck. Its core message is that seeing a doctor early greatly improves the chances of successful treatment.
How it is celebrated: doctors give talks and offer free check-ups, patient groups share recovery stories, and online campaigns explain which symptoms should never be ignored.
Tobacco, heavy drinking and certain types of the human papillomavirus are among the main risk factors for these cancers. The day was proclaimed in 2014 by professional societies of head and neck specialists.
