Walk on Stilts Day
July 27 · Level 3 · #1734 of 2238

A playful day that invites you to rise a little above the ground and see the world from higher up. It is a fine excuse to celebrate street and circus performers and to test your sense of balance.
How it is celebrated: street performers stride through squares and parks on stilts, while brave amateurs try their first steps on low stilts, ideally with a friend ready to steady them.
In the Landes region of south-western France, shepherds once walked on stilts across marshy ground, which kept them out of the mud and let them keep an eye on their flocks from afar.
