World Habitat Protection Day

World Habitat Protection Day draws attention to the places that plants and animals need to survive. Protecting a species also means protecting the woodland, wetland or grassland that supplies its food, shelter and breeding sites.

How it is celebrated: conservation groups organise educational activities, nature walks and volunteer projects. Participants remove litter and help restore damaged habitats with expert guidance.

A patch of intact forest can still leave wildlife isolated. Habitat corridors connect these natural islands, allowing animals to move between them.
