World Duchenne Awareness Day
September 7 · Level 2 · #1839 of 2238

This is a day to talk about Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a serious genetic condition that gradually weakens the muscles. It mostly affects boys, and the earlier it is diagnosed, the more support families can get.
How it is celebrated: patient groups and families share their stories, run fundraisers for research and hold information campaigns, and many people wear red, the colour of Duchenne awareness.
The condition is named after the French neurologist Guillaume Duchenne, and it is caused by a mutation in the dystrophin gene, which sits on the X chromosome.
