World DJ Day
March 9 · Level 8 · #528 of 2238
World DJ Day gives credit to the people behind the turntables and mixers who bring a dance floor to life. It celebrates musical instinct and the knack of reading a room.
How it is celebrated: clubs and radio stations host special sets, DJs give workshops to beginners, and music fans gather for parties and online streams.
Hip-hop is often said to have been born at a party in the Bronx on 11 August 1973, where DJ Kool Herc used two turntables to loop the short drum breaks of records so the dancing never had to stop.
