World Cocktail Day
May 13 · Level 7 · #833 of 2238

A day to raise a glass to cocktails and the craft of mixing them. It is a good excuse to revisit a classic or try something you have never ordered.
How it is celebrated: bartenders create signature recipes, bars run tastings and workshops, and friends shake up drinks at home. Alcohol-free versions are just as welcome at the table.
The date goes back to 13 May 1806, when a newspaper from Hudson, New York, The Balance and Columbian Repository, printed one of the earliest definitions of a cocktail: a stimulating mix of spirits, sugar, water and bitters.
