World Clubfoot Day
June 3 · Level 1 · #2049 of 2238

This day is about clubfoot, a birth condition in which a baby's foot is turned inward and downward. It affects roughly one in a thousand babies, and the day spreads the word that early treatment can correct it without major surgery.
How it is celebrated: doctors, parents and charities talk about modern treatment, share stories of children who now walk freely, and call for care to be within reach in every country.
The date is no accident: Dr Ignacio Ponseti was born on 3 June 1914. His method of gently reshaping the foot with a series of casts, followed by a special brace, is now used around the world.
