World Children's Day

World Children's Day puts children's rights in the spotlight: safety, education, care and a say in matters that affect them. This UN observance asks adults to turn those rights into everyday realities, at home, at school and beyond.

How it is celebrated: schools explore children's rights, charities run campaigns, and young people join discussions about their futures. UNICEF campaigns also see landmarks illuminated in blue.

The date marks two milestones exactly 30 years apart: the UN adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.
