Wikipedia Day
January 15 · Level 6 · #1045 of 2238
Wikipedia Day marks the launch of Wikipedia on 15 January 2001. It celebrates a free encyclopedia that volunteers around the world write and keep improving.
How it is celebrated: local communities hold meetups, run edit-a-thons where people improve articles together, and cut a birthday cake. Plenty of readers simply open a favourite page and fix a typo.
Wikipedia now has editions in more than 300 languages, and it runs on donations rather than advertising.
