Russian Investigative Committee Foundation Day
January 15 · Level 8 · #522 of 2238

This anniversary marks the establishment of Russia’s Investigative Committee as an independent agency. It recognises investigators, forensic specialists and other staff involved in investigating crimes and examining evidence.
How it is celebrated: offices hold ceremonial gatherings, present departmental awards and honour retired colleagues. The anniversary also provides an occasion to review work and discuss the history of criminal investigation institutions.
The agency had a predecessor with an almost identical name: the Investigative Committee under Russia’s Prosecutor’s Office. The independent committee began operating on 15 January 2011, so the anniversary marks that institutional change rather than the beginning of investigative work in Russia.
