Vinyl Record Day
August 12 · Level 6 · #1107 of 2238
A day to honour recorded sound and the spinning discs that music lovers have brought back into fashion. The date is linked to Thomas Edison's invention of the phonograph in 1877.
How it is celebrated: fans dust off their turntables, play favourite albums from first track to last, browse record shops and show off their collections to friends.
Edison's first phonograph recorded sound on tinfoil, not vinyl, and the 33⅓ rpm long-playing record only arrived in 1948, introduced by Columbia.
