Russian Internal Affairs and Internal Troops Veterans Day
April 17 · Level 5 · #1257 of 2238
This Russian observance honours veterans of the internal affairs bodies and the Interior Ministry's former internal troops. It recognises years of service while keeping retired personnel connected through friendship, practical support and the sharing of experience with younger colleagues.
How it is celebrated: veterans' organisations arrange reunions, congratulate former personnel and visit those who need support. Award presentations and remembrance ceremonies accompany conversations between veterans and serving officers.
The holiday's name preserves an earlier institutional chapter: the Interior Ministry's internal troops became the basis of Russia's National Guard troops in 2016.
