Valentine's Day is an occasion to express love and affection. It can mean a romantic evening, a small surprise or simply putting into words something that everyday life leaves unsaid.
How it is celebrated: people exchange cards, flowers and chocolates, plan dates and spend time with someone they love. In some countries, friends and classmates exchange greetings too, making room for more than romantic relationships.
There is no single undisputed biography behind Saint Valentine. Christian tradition records several martyrs with that name, and the familiar stories about a patron of lovers mix history with legend.
