International Book Giving Day
February 14 · Level 4 · #1456 of 2238

International Book Giving Day encourages people to put a book into someone else's hands. Children are a particular focus, with the aim of making enjoyable reading available beyond homes that already have well-stocked shelves.
How it is celebrated: participants give books to friends, donate to libraries and children's organisations, and arrange collections or swaps. Choosing something suited to the recipient's age and interests makes the gift more personal.
The initiative began in 2012. Taking part does not have to involve buying anything: a book that one reader has finished can become another reader's new discovery.
