Trifon Zarezan — Bulgaria's Winegrowers' Day

Trifon Zarezan is Bulgaria's celebration of winegrowers and winemakers, associated with Saint Tryphon. It centres on tending the vines and wishing for a fruitful harvest, recognising the work behind the wine before the glasses are raised.

How it is celebrated: growers ceremonially prune vines, pour wine onto them and share a meal. Some communities choose a “king of the vineyards” and crown him with a wreath made from vine branches.

The name “Zarezan” refers to pruning. Even the holiday's name points to a practical vineyard task that helps shape the coming harvest.
